Together, We Can!
The Educational Foundation

A Message from the Educational Foundation President

The purposes of the Delta Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation are to make a difference in the lives of Delta Phi Epsilon sisters through opportunity and education, and to encourage our members to act for the greater good through meaningful philanthropy. The foundation was created in 1967, primarily to provide scholarships and special support for sisters in need, but through time has evolved to also provide funding for sorority educational and leadership development programs, like Convention, volunteer training, and our PEARL Program, as well as support for our philanthropies, the national associations of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) and Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD).

As the needs of the sorority and our sisters evolve, there is great potential for the Educational Foundation to advance the sorority and its mission. Changes in technology and the expectations of our membership require the sorority to become more innovative in the services offered to our sisters. In order to ensure that Delta Phi Epsilon remains competitive with the other national sororities, the Educational Foundation wants to increase its grant making and support of sorority programs. By providing grants as allowed by law for educational programming and other needs, the Educational Foundation can help ensure the strength of our sisterhood in the years leading up to our centennial celebration and beyond.

No matter the level, every gift to the Educational Foundation is important to our future as a sisterhood. We hope that we can count on your participation and encouragement as we strive to meet the needs of the sorority, our sisters (both alumnae and collegiate), and our community.

Thank you for caring about our sisterhood. Together, we can make a difference.

Yours in true sisterhood,

Risa Mallin
President

The Delta Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization and contributions are tax-deductible as allowed by law.

Excellence in Programming,
Our Hallmark

Your gifts underwrite programs that benefit all members of Delta Phi Epsilon, both alumnae and collegians, as well as support our philanthropies. Here are some details:

Scholarships
It is a great joy to make education accessible to bright, young women! The Delta Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation awards four to six scholarships annually to qualified women pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees. We currently give $1,000 scholarships to selected recipients. With your support, we will be able to increase the number and amount of the scholarship opportunities we offer in order to better support more of our sisters’ educational aspirations.

We have opportunities for the creation of permanent or annual named scholarships. If you are interested in creating a new scholarship, please contact the Executive Director, Nicole DeFeo at ndefeo@dphie.org

Leadership Development
Forward-thinking programming and innovative leadership training are hallmarks of the Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority. Our programming prepares sisters for the challenges of leadership, and encourages the development of strong skills for life. Currently, our primary vehicles for providing leadership development programming to our members are Convention, District Leadership Conferences, chapter Foundations programs, programming manuals and resources, and volunteer training.

Programming: Convention is the largest gathering of DPhiE women, held in designated years, where ideas and inspiration are passed from the international leadership to our chapters, and member to member. Past foundation gifts have sponsored speakers, provided resource manuals, handouts and other educational materials, and funded alumnae volunteer attendance. To discover how you can get involved with Convention, please review our list of Sponsorship Opportunities

Special Funds: There is an enormous amount of potential for increased giving to our leadership development programs and we are seeking partners who want to establish special funds and endowments to assist our sisters. Your support will help us enhance our programs, by attracting superior speakers and program presenters; allowing us to better use technology to create professional, interactive programs; and making attendance at our conferences more affordable for our collegiate chapters.

Additionally, we would like to fund more opportunities for our collegiate sisters to attend the Undergraduate Inter Fraternity Institute (UIFI), LeaderShape and other Greek and student leader programs offered by the National Panhellenic Conference, North American Interfraternity Conference and other student development organizations.

Harriette Hirsch Sisterhood Fund
The Harriette Hirsch Sisterhood Fund provides support and hope for our sisters in need. Recent gifts have ensured young sisters were able to stay in school during a time of family crisis and provided critical support after personal tragedy.

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD)
Currently, our chapters are the primary source of our support for our philanthropies. Chapters support both education and fundraising for our philanthropies, including the annual ANAD Candlelight Vigil and a number of great fundraising activities. During the 2004-2006 biennium, the Delta Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation and our chapters have provided more than $35,000 in support for both the CFF and ANAD. Since 1967, Delta Phi Epsilon has contributed more than $1 million to research for a cure for cystic fibrosis.

We would like to invite all sisters and friends interested in promoting self-acceptance through ANAD and medical research and care for Cystic Fibrosis patients, to make their gifts through the Foundation or by visiting our partners’ websites. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation offers a special online giving form for Delta Phi Epsilon members to make their tax-deductible gifts.
